What is the first piece of technology you would purchase for your classroom?

Well There is no denying that technology is taking over our world. It is becoming more and more a huge part of our every day lives. With the current growth in technology teachers have had to change the way that they teach to keep up. One of the things that has effected Gym classes lately are things like video games, or heart rate monitors. motion Video games are used in classrooms because they promote movement and the kids are in a setting that they can understand and are more comfortable in.
One of the first things I plan to buy for my class room are Heart rate monitors(HRM). I think that they are a great way to monitor the physical performances of the students as well as their growth. The monitors have a watch that tracks the heart rate as part of a workout, it allows the teacher to see how much effort the student put in during the warm up, cool down, and in mid workout. Students can also use monitors to strength, flexibility, as well as cholesterol levels(Furger,2001). They can also be used to help give a better understanding of how the heart works.having the knowledge of what your body is doing will help a student learn and have the knowledge and ability to effect their own physical fitness. These monitors are not only limited to just running on the treadmill for ten minutes, it can be used for tracking your heart during sporting events or other physical activities where the body is moving. We used HRM in high school gym classes and those where a big help in telling me what I needed to do for that class and how much I needed to work. I think that this is a good way to teach your gym class.

What is the first piece of technology you would purchase for your classroom?
As a KPE major, I know that I want to partake in physical activities, either outdoors or inside. Being able to communicate with others through the use of social networking sites is a key part of life in today's society because it allows you to engage with others in an instant. This flexibility creates opportunity to learn from others and also share your ideas. In KPE this is very helpful because people have tons of great ideas for games, activities, workouts, anything you could ever want to know and more.
In the classroom I'd use technology to have my students communicate about what they'd like to do in classes. We could share ideas, take class polls, choose the favorite option, use videos to learn more about the game/activity and then play. Keeping kids engaged is often times a difficult task, so you need to make things interesting. As more young kids are interested in video games, I think the first purchase I'd make is on a Wii with fitness games. This way they can keep track of their progress, play video games in school and get physically fit while having fun.

What is the first piece of technology you would purchase for your classroom?
As an aspiring Physical Education Teacher, I believe technology is the future to efficient teaching within a classroom environment. Although physical education is aimed toward staying active and collaborating outside, technology can be used to enhance and vary the ways physical education can be teached. For example, if the weather is not cooperating for a planned outside activity, I, as a productive physical education teacher, would use my Ipod to display an application through a projector screen on the wall. The application could be numerous amounts of things, even as simple as flying frisbees moving across the wall. The students could work on their throwing skills by trying to hit a soaring frisbee with a ball. A similar example is shown in our wiki in the Video tab. The children are able to experience varieties of activities through the use of technology.

Technology is always enhancing and becoming vital to everyday lives. Children are intrigued by what technology has to offer. The Wii was the first gaming console to incorporate the use of physical activity which can be enjoyed within the comfort of your own home. The Wii can also be used in a physical education classroom setting. This is shown within our Wiki in the Video section. The Wii has been the most popular seller amongst the gaming consoles today. Playstation, http://us.playstation.com/ps3/playstation-move/ and Xbox, http://www.xbox.com/en-us/kinect , have noticed these sales and have come out with their own versions of physical activity gaming consoles. From what I have seen in the past few years, children will be exposed to numerous amounts of technology and it is best to get them fimilar with technology to better prepare them for the future.
